Rosh Chodesh is the ancient Jewish holiday of the new moon — a quiet pause that gives us and our families a chance to breathe, notice the night sky, and begin again.
Great question! It's "ROSH HO-desh" — the second word is pronounced with a heavy "H," like Hanukkah. Rosh means "head" and Chodesh means "month."
At the next new moon — which, in Jewish tradition, is when a sliver of moon is newly visible after a fully dark moon. See upcoming dates here.
There are so many! First of all, when your family begins celebrating Rosh Chodesh together (even for just five minutes a month), YOU become more anchored and grounded. Kids feel that! Moreover, books like The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt uplift home-based spiritual practices (like Rosh Chodesh!) as one of the best protective factors for kids' mental health. This practice is deep medicine for the whole family.
